Carnival in Gran Canaria is the liveliest time of year. Arguineguin Carnival in particular attracts huge crowds during the celebrations, especially for the big parade or Cabalgata.
The Carnaval Costa Mogán (Arguineguin), will run from 20th – 25th February 2018.
This year’s theme is ‘Comics and Superheroes‘.
The Wig Party was introduced in 2017 to get more people in costume, not just on parade day! 🙂
This will take place on Friday 23rd February with entertainment including music from DJ Tony Bob, DJ Aitor and DJ Juacko.
The big parade (cabalgata) is on Saturday 24th February and starts at 19:00h on the High School road El Timonel, in which a flurry of costumed people and floats in full song and dance will parade through the village round past the Ancora Center (good place for watching) and through to the Market Square (Plaza Negra) where the party goes on until the early hours.
Arguineguin welcomes everyone to join in the fun, so if you are on holiday make sure to buy a costume from one of the local shops or pack one in your suitcase. Here’s the full carnival program:
(The new program for 2018 is yet to be announced)
Most of the festivities take place in the Market Square, with stages, music, bands and chiringuitos providing tasty grills and fairground snacks.
The burial of the sardine on the last day of Carnival (Sunday 25th February) is a one of the quirkier features of the fiesta, which symbolizes the end of the party by setting fire to a huge fish decoration and a firework display for all.
Will you be going to this years’ Carnival in Arguineguin? It’s fun for for the whole family and if you are on holiday in Arguineguin, this is one event not to miss!
*We are still waiting on confirmation of the 2018 program and theme so activities mentioned above are subject to change until confirmed by the Ayuntamiento de Mogán.
